What is a refresher driving course?
A refresher driving course is not a new driving programme and there is no exam attached to it. It is a series of one-on-one lessons in which you rebuild routine, observation, speed, priority and vehicle control. You get straight back on the road with an experienced instructor next to you, in traffic that matches your current level. That way you build up your confidence step by step, without the pressure of an exam. For anyone who wants to continue with a full programme afterwards, a refresher course flows naturally into our regular driving lessons.
Who is a refresher course for?
A refresher course is for anyone who feels that driving takes some getting used to again. For example:
- You passed your test years ago and hardly drive any kilometres.
- You passed recently, but the step to driving on your own still feels too big.
- You are coming back after a break due to illness, time abroad or moving out of the city.
- You feel unsure on the motorway, in rush hour or when parking.
- You are an older driver and want to check whether you are still driving safely.
- You are a parent or coach of a 2toDrive candidate and want to refresh your own skills.
- You are switching from manual to automatic, or to an electric car.
How does a refresher course at Çakmak Driving School work?
The first lesson is mostly a check-in. Your instructor drives along and calmly looks at your observation, vehicle control and confidence. After that we build a tailored lesson plan together, not a fixed package. The focus is on what you actually need: motorway driving and merging, roundabouts, parking, busy city streets, or simply feeling relaxed getting from A to B again. All at your own pace, with no pressure.
How many refresher lessons do you need?
It depends on the learner. On average people take between 3 and 10 refresher lessons, depending on how long you have been away from driving and which situations make you feel unsure. After the first lesson your instructor will give you an honest estimate of what you are likely to need. You book individual lessons, so you are never locked into a package. No exam: purely about confidence and safety
There is no CBR exam attached to a refresher course. The goal is simple: to get you back on the road safely and enjoying driving again. Do you still want an official check of your driving skills, for example for a licence renewal or just to know exactly where you stand? You can book a CBR practical exam or an interim test. We are happy to prepare you specifically for either one.
Manual or automatic, you choose
You can take refresher lessons in your own car or in one of our lesson cars, either manual or automatic. Handy if you want to get used to an automatic after years of driving manual, or the other way around if you want to practise the clutch and gears again. Your instructor adapts the approach to the car you are driving.
